Fiber Questions

Freedom FIBER is the fiber-optic internet and HD home phone service offered through Tombigbee Communications, a subsidiary of Tombigbee Electric Cooperative. We aim to reach underserved areas in Northwest Alabama and to provide fast, local service that outperforms any other internet service in the area.

Fiber-optic technology consists of a bundle of tubes, each of which is capable of transmitting messages modulated onto light waves. This allows communication to be sent and received at a much higher, more consistent speed than cable. Those with fiber optic internet no longer need to suffer through slow speeds or buffering. They can download and send large files in seconds, stream high-quality video seamlessly, and participate in online gaming all simultaneously while still having enough connectivity to browse the internet. Although this type of connection is usually only available in the bigger cities, Tombigbee Communications is working to bring this to our rural neighborhoods in Northwest Alabama.

We offer several different packages, but our fastest speed for residential is 1 Gig per second. Our fastest speeds for business are 10 Gigs per second. There is a freedom FIBER plan for every home and business!

Pricing & Fees

We offer blazing fast fiber internet and superior HD phone service to both homes and businesses. Please look here for our residential prices and here for our business prices.

For basic, aerial residential installation, there are no charges to the customers. In the chance that installation costs may occur due to a more complex installation, these will be discussed with the customer upfront prior to installation. There are installation fees for our Business Lite and Business Plus packages.

Freedom FIBER has no contract for our customers.

Bills are most often sent to your email you provided at registration. We do bill a month in advance, so the first bill will have some prorated charges. If you would rather get a paper invoice, there is a $2 monthly fee for this.

Equipment & Installation

Freedom FIBER providers residential customers the equipment they need at no additional cost to the customer. This equipment includes an ADTRAN Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and a TPLink or Zyxel Router/Wi-Fi. If you are interested in using a different router, you are welcome to do so. Keep in mind, our tech support will only support the equipment provided by our company. If you choose to bring your own router, our tech support will be limited.

Whole Home Wireless gives you the option to extend your network throughout your home. This provides you with extenders to help make sure all corners of your home are covered and connected to the fastest speeds available. We offer this as a lease option or a purchase option. If you choose our lease option, the cost is $5 a month per extender. To purchase the extenders, they are each $100.00. Other Questions

We offer 24/7 365 days a year tier one tech support. This is a service we provide at no additional costs to our customers.

We do not offer television service directly through us. With our speeds, you can stream your television choices through services like YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, FuboTV and many others. This allows you to take control of your entertainment choices and can help you save money!

Yes! We are proud to participate in this program to give qualified customers $30 off their freedom FIBER bill. Please visit getACP.com for instructions on how to qualify for this program. After qualifying, please contact our office with your application ID number.

The best way to test your true speed is to have a hard-wired connection to your gateway or router. Certain devices will also only handle certain speeds, so testing on a wireless connection or with an older device may not get you your truest speed. We encourage you to test your speeds from www.speedtest.net and ensure your testing from freedom FIBER’s server. There is also an Oolka app available for laptops/desktops. Please remember, any ads running in the browser can also impact your speed tests.

The most accurate way to test your speed is to have a hard-wired connection directly to the router.

Tombigbee Communications is a proud participant in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) started by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
