In 1935, bringing electricity to rural Alabama seemed like an impossible task. Yet nine local farmers believed their communities deserved access to the same opportunities as everyone else. Their vision led to the formation of Tombigbee Electric Cooperative and transformed life across the region.

Today, Freedom Fiber carries that same spirit forward. Just as Tombigbee helped bring electricity to rural communities generations ago, we're committed to providing the reliable fiber internet that keeps our communities connected today.

What started as a 12-mile electric line serving 22 members has grown into a cooperative serving more than 9,000 meters and supporting thousands of additional fiber customers across Northwest Alabama. It's a testament to our longstanding commitment to serving the evolving needs of our communities.

Why Tombigbee Communications Was Formed

Access to reliable internet shouldn't depend on where you live.

When many of our members lacked high-speed internet options, Tombigbee Electric Cooperative formed Tombigbee Communications to help close the connectivity gap in rural Alabama. As our network grew, so did our commitment. We expanded beyond our electric service area to serve neighboring communities that other providers often overlooked.

Today, Freedom Fiber delivers reliable fiber internet across multiple counties, helping connect the people, businesses, and communities that make Northwest Alabama home.
